letting go … in a funny way

When I envisioned my daughter going to Kindergarten, I imagined her in a super cute outfit … a pink skirt, a Modern Frills tee and cute (but sporty) tennis shoes.  The first couple weeks I would give “guidance” in the evening when we were laying out her outfit for the next day.  She would get up in the morning, put on her clothes and skip into the kitchen for breakfast.

I am not sure what has happened in the past couple weeks but she is sporting a new level of confidence!  In addition to confidence, a renewed sense of fashion as well … think Punky Brewster and Rainbow Bright sharing a closet.  It also doesn’t help that my husband buys her whatever crazy socks they come across on their Target shopping trips.

I had to smile and let her walk out the door.  My favorite comment up as school was from another mom, “It sort of matches.  The shorts have red in them too.  Wow … I just got to the socks and shoes.  Never mind … that is awesome!”

I did smile all day long thinking of her rocking her outfit at school … so proud that she is not afraid to show her true colors!

I am a laughing because my daughter(s) are the same way!! And I too have learned it’s not a battle I want to fight. As long as everything is covered up and it’s weather appropriate, I let them wear whatever…

Oh my! I decided to just surrender the war with my youngest the other day, too. She was rocking a very similar outfit as your little one. We got to preschool and I had totally forgotten it was picture day! I just hope that they didn’t do a group photo!

    Hugs to ya!

This is so CUTE!!! I absolutely love it. My sister has had to let go, too, with her daughter (also in kindergarten). She always pictured bows and completely coordinated outfits and Parker wants NO bows and to wear what she calls her “mom shorts” every day. It’s hysterical and so cute. Kudos to you mamas for letting go. I’m sure it’s hard, but these outfits they’re coming up with on their own are so endearing (and they make great photos for later). Hope you’re well, girl!

Too cute! I am horrible at letting my daughter pick out things.. I lay several outfits for her. So far it has worked but she is only 3. I can only see what 4 and 5 would bring! Make sure you save the pictures! I look back and my pictures and tell my mom, what were you thinking, letting me out of the house looking like that? It was horrible! A shiny leotard under a sundress! ACK! Obviously she let me pick it out! haha!

This is too cute! My little one is starting to do the same…she’ll be wearing a multicolored shirt with a cat on it and put on her also multicolored heart skirt that SO doesn’t match. But she says look mama they have all the same colors..and then proceeds to name all the colors on her shirt and skirt and totally believe it matches!!

Love it! My son (also in Kindergarden) has a dress code at our local school – it definitely took him a couple weeks to get that he couldn’t wear whatever he wanted. While it certainly makes it easier for us in the morning, I can’t help feel a little sad that he and and his little sister won’t get to show their ‘creative’ fashion sense like this :) I guess there’s always weekends!
