crafty … gilded mini easel

Gilded Mini Easel by Modern Frills

I stumbled across this little easel set out for the trash by a neighbor.  I have a weakness for chalkboards so I picked it up and set it on my porch.  It stayed there for several weeks.  My husband kept asking me what my plans were for the easel and I didn’t have an answer.  I just knew I wanted it.

I came up with a plan.  I was helping with a baby shower for a friend and it would be perfect as table decor.  This was a super easy project. I unscrewed both sides of the easel and wiped everything down with a damp cloth. I put a fresh coat of chalkboard paint on each side of the easel.  In it’s previous life, it was a wipe board on one side, but I decided to change that.  Dry erase markers are pretty much banned in my house as they are a total nightmare and are completely impossible to get out of clothes/furniture/everything.  While the chalkboards were drying, I spray painted the stand part of the easel with a gold spray paint.  15 minutes later, I screwed the chalkboards on the easel and it was done.  At the last minute, I took a little bit of gold paint and painted the edges of each chalkboard.  It runs over on the edges but gives it a gilded look on the edges … which I love!

I love gold paired with the chalkboard.  I am definitely going to be using this over the holidays.  I have a few Thanksgiving sayings that will look perfect on it.
