{sweet customer} … wild west hoe-down

I know I say this every time I share customer photos … but I LOVE getting pictures of cuties wearing my tees.  It is so fun and completely makes my day!

Today I get to share some adorable party pictures from a Wild West Hoe-Down by Laura of Cupcakes and Lemonade.  Laura put this party together for her 3 daughters … and she did an amazing job.

You can tell by the smiles … it was a good day!

Laura shares some of her party details in her own words …

My favorite thing to plan every year is my 3 daughters birthday party.  Usually during the summer we start tossing around ideas and when they said cowgirl, I have to admit I was so excited!  What a fun theme and so many different things you can do with it. Hope you enjoy are Wild West Hoe Down!
When the kids entered the barn, they were given a cowboy/cowgirl hat, a bandana and a sheriff’s badge to wear.  They had a blast in the photo booth, “all gussied up.” My Dad made the most amazing wooden hobby horses for each child.  They had a chance to decorate them with googley eyes, sequins, pom poms and even yarn and fleece for manes.  They really got creative!
When they were finished decorating their horses, it was time for face painting.  Once they had their badges on and their faces painted we headed out to the ring to ride.  They all got a chance to groom and tack the horse then ride.  The horses were all dressed up with ribbons and glitter, so cute!
By this time, most everyone had worked up an appetite.  We had a make your own caramel apple station, a yummy dessert table with lots of fun sweets and if you were still hungry, you could visit the “Three Little Cowgirls General Store”  to fill your own bag full of penny candy.
This party was so much fun to plan and style.  The whole day couldn’t have been better!
Thanks to so many amazing vendors for all the extra special little touches that made my “Three Little Cowgirls” have the best birthday party ever!

Last week, I woke up to a sweet message from one of my customers, Kerri … such a great way to start the day!  She ordered a Firetruck tee for her son’s birthday party.  She loved the tee and so did the birthday boy.  Kerri sent me a link to the party pictures and I knew I had to share them.

Kerri asked me to put Jack’s age in the center of the star on the back.  I love the way it turned out!

Here are a few shots of the snacks and sweets…

My favorite treats are definitely the matches…

{party feature} … Camille’s Cherry Picnic Party

I love the idea of taking a simple activity … a picnic … and planning a party around it.  Jodie of Millie & Me did just that with lots of gingham, red & white,  polka dots and one very happy birthday girl…

Love this picture of Camille (in her Modern Frills Cherry tee)  in front of the dessert table…

A few more party shots …

Party details as described by Jodie …

“Camille’s 3rd birthday was a cherry picnic party that we celebrated with lots of family and friends. Camille opened her presents on a blanket made by her great grandmother and wore a cute custom cherry tank top! The dessert table included cupcakes and cake topped with cherries and printable cherry toppers, fruit cups, marshmallow pops with pink icing, and strawberry baskets with cookies. A backdrop covered in burlap held a gingham and cherry ‘happy birthday’ banner.  The adult table was decorated with 36 inch polka dot balloons, mason jars with votives, burlap runners, and tall pillar candles. the kids table was decorated with 17 inch red balloons and gingham pinwheels in buckets.  Cherry koolaid was served in plastic milk bottles with white paper straws.  Water bottles were wrapped with cute gingham packing tape (easy and cute DIY project!)  Favors included bubbles in metal tins with handmade wands and cupcakes in a jar tied with twine and a wooden spoon(these were a huge hit with everyone!).”

A huge THANK YOU to Jodie for sharing her ADORABLE party!

{party feature} … Girls Spa Party

I was so excited to be asked by Tanya of Save the Date for Cupcakes to help with a Girls Spa Party she was working on.  I am a huge fan of Tanya and you should be too!  She has a great blog filled with party and dessert table inspiration … see my most recent favorite here.

Her “dessert” table is stunning … but I wouldn’t eat any of those treats as they are all made out of soap … yes, SOAP!  How fun is that…

The soap ice cream cones are my favorite…

crafty: simple white ruffled tablecloth

After looking for a tablecloth for several weeks and Ava’s birthday party getting closer and closer, I decided to make my own … the day before the party.  Nothing like waiting to the last minute!  I purchased a pre-made white tablecloth from Target.  The key to this was buying a tablecloth that was larger than I needed by about 25%.  The extra 25% is for making your ruffle.

The supplies are simple…tablecloth, thread, scissors, sewing machine …and about 30 minutes!  I am not kidding about the time.  This is a very easy tablecloth that looks fabulous!

The first step is to trim your tablecloth to the actual size you will need to cover your table.  Once you have done this, pin the edges…

and sew a straight hem.  Take your extra leftover piece and cut it into strips.

Figuring out the strips of fabric …

I cut my extra fabric into 2.5″ strips and layered 2 of them on top of each other when I made the ruffle.  The width of the strips will depend on how much fabric you have left over and how big your table is.  You will also need to consider that the strips of fabric will shorten a bit when ruffled.  The amount they shorten will vary based on different sewing machines.  I recommend ruffling a small sample piece to get an idea of how much your fabric strips will shorten when ruffled.  Figuring this out sounds a lot harder than it actually is….don’t be scared!  You can do it.

I should also mention that being the lazy person that I am…I did not do a sample piece.  I just cut everything into strips, layered them and ruffled while saying a short prayer that I had enough:)  I did!

Ruffling the Fabric Strips…

I almost went out to buy a ruffler foot for my sewing machine.  I changed my mind after reading about ruffled streamers on MADE and decided to give this technique a try with fabric…and it worked!  Here’s how….

To make the strips of fabric ruffle, I placed 2 strips of fabric on top of each other.  Setting my machine to the longest stitch (4 on my machine) and the highest tension (9 on my machine), I stitched straight down the center of the 2 strips of fabric…

As I stitched, the fabric magically ruffled slightly.   So EASY!  Disregard the edges that have been done with pinking shears…I changed my mind and used regular scissors to cut the strips.

Adding the ruffle…

Once the ruffles were sewn, I lined up the edge of the ruffle with the edge of the tablecloth.  Then, I sewed a straight stitch down the center of the ruffle to attach it to the tablecloth…

I added the ruffle to all 4 edges of the tablecloth and DONE!  Remember to adjust your stitch size and your tension back to normal before sewing the ruffle on to the tablecloth.

A few more photos…

and a very happy birthday girl…

{party feature} a strawberry lemonade birthday party

Strawberry Lemonade is the preferred beverage of my birthday girl who turned 5 earlier this month.  She will drink anything sweet, but her true love is lemonade…pink strawberry lemonade.

I sent my idea to Stefanie of Anna and Blue Paperie.  She took my party idea and created an adorable invitation to along with it…

Once the invitations were in the mail, I began the dessert table preparations.  I started by making a white ruffled tablecloth (DIY tutorial coming soon).  The background of the dessert table was made using the “Happy Birthday” banner by Anna and Blue Paperie.  I also made a few fabric flowers from vintage inspired kitchen towels and some remnant fabric using fabric stiffener (purchased at a local craft store) and a tutorial from Jones Design Company .

The rest of the dessert table came together with cupcakes, fresh strawberries and some amazing cookies by Callye of The Adventures of Sweet Sugarbelle.

…did I mention that the cookies were AMAZING…

…a little red and aqua mini bunting…

Loved using little bits of twine throughout the party…

Ava wore this sweet Strawberry tank top (available in my shop) and a precious rosette clip from Sweethart’s.  I should mention that Ava wants to wear this rosette clip every day.  It has to be the cutest hair clip ever!!!

Ava Kate definitely soaked up all of the birthday attention.  It was fun to watch her as everyone sang Happy Birthday…

This is a very happy birthday girl…

The birthday girl and her friends sipped lemonade and danced in tutus with her dance teacher.  It was a perfect day!

A huge THANK YOU to all of the vendors and friends who helped with the party…
