The Running Man by yours truly while Aidan is doing The Sprinkler.

The runner …

Really, can’t we just stay focused…

I don’t even know what to say about this one …

The wind tunnel and possibly some more of my dance moves…

Again, I have no idea…

a washer surprise …

I found these little guys in the washer over the weekend …

I am just thankful they didn’t make through to the dryer.  That would have been a mess!!!

my finest moment(s) …

1. My 8 year old abbreviated medicine to meds. in his homework.  “What … that’s what you call them.”  His teacher didn’t see it that way.

2. Ava: “I love you more than Abby.” Abby is our dog.

3. Ava and I were on a recent mommy/daughter date night at her favorite restaurant, Fishrock…also known as Rockfish.  It was raining and we had to make a run for the car as I was not prepared with an umbrella …

Me … “Hurry up and hop in the car”

Ava … (as she climbs in the car) “Dammit, my feet got wet.”

Me … “Ummm, what did you say?”

Ava … “Dammit, my feet got wet.”

I was too afraid to ask her where on earth she heard that word … as I already know the answer to that.  They really do listen to EVERY word you say!  My sisters only comment was, “at least she used it correctly”.

Happy Friday!

morning hair

I know I have shared Ava Kate’s morning hair before … but this is just too good not to share again.

I couldn’t fake this even if I tried!

Have a great week!

good weekend and a fabric rainbow …

We had a fun weekend filled with family stuff … good stuff.  The weather is starting to cool a bit.   85 degrees is much better than 110 degrees.  To  top off the good weather, I have this rainbow of fabrics ready to be made into something fabulous…

I do love fabric!

Happy Monday!

letting go … in a funny way

When I envisioned my daughter going to Kindergarten, I imagined her in a super cute outfit … a pink skirt, a Modern Frills tee and cute (but sporty) tennis shoes.  The first couple weeks I would give “guidance” in the evening when we were laying out her outfit for the next day.  She would get up in the morning, put on her clothes and skip into the kitchen for breakfast.

I am not sure what has happened in the past couple weeks but she is sporting a new level of confidence!  In addition to confidence, a renewed sense of fashion as well … think Punky Brewster and Rainbow Bright sharing a closet.  It also doesn’t help that my husband buys her whatever crazy socks they come across on their Target shopping trips.

I had to smile and let her walk out the door.  My favorite comment up as school was from another mom, “It sort of matches.  The shorts have red in them too.  Wow … I just got to the socks and shoes.  Never mind … that is awesome!”

I did smile all day long thinking of her rocking her outfit at school … so proud that she is not afraid to show her true colors!

this is how i started my day….

It’s not mine … I use a more grown up version.  But really … They were toothbrush sword fighting.  Evidently Ava was losing and launched the toothbrush as a last ditch effort to win.  Not sure if that really makes sense but that is what they both told me.  Oh well … at least they were laughing and not trying to injure each other:)

Happy Weekend!

a little vacation…

[photo by Christian Chaize via Elements of Style]

I will be taking a few days for some fun in the sun and a little cousin reunion with my husband’s family.  25 people under one roof! It will either be a lot of fun OR we won’t be speaking to each other for a few years!

I will keep you posted:)

{party feature} a strawberry lemonade birthday party

Strawberry Lemonade is the preferred beverage of my birthday girl who turned 5 earlier this month.  She will drink anything sweet, but her true love is lemonade…pink strawberry lemonade.

I sent my idea to Stefanie of Anna and Blue Paperie.  She took my party idea and created an adorable invitation to along with it…

Once the invitations were in the mail, I began the dessert table preparations.  I started by making a white ruffled tablecloth (DIY tutorial coming soon).  The background of the dessert table was made using the “Happy Birthday” banner by Anna and Blue Paperie.  I also made a few fabric flowers from vintage inspired kitchen towels and some remnant fabric using fabric stiffener (purchased at a local craft store) and a tutorial from Jones Design Company .

The rest of the dessert table came together with cupcakes, fresh strawberries and some amazing cookies by Callye of The Adventures of Sweet Sugarbelle.

…did I mention that the cookies were AMAZING…

…a little red and aqua mini bunting…

Loved using little bits of twine throughout the party…

Ava wore this sweet Strawberry tank top (available in my shop) and a precious rosette clip from Sweethart’s.  I should mention that Ava wants to wear this rosette clip every day.  It has to be the cutest hair clip ever!!!

Ava Kate definitely soaked up all of the birthday attention.  It was fun to watch her as everyone sang Happy Birthday…

This is a very happy birthday girl…

The birthday girl and her friends sipped lemonade and danced in tutus with her dance teacher.  It was a perfect day!

A huge THANK YOU to all of the vendors and friends who helped with the party…
