8th birthday party…graffiti style

8 year olds are picky…and they definitely have an opinion on what is “cool” and “un-cool”.  Graffiti is “cool” in my son’s opinion…so, we decided on a graffiti style party focusing on blues and yellows.

The hardest part of every party for me is the invitation.  I turned to Paige of Paiges of Style to create a custom invitation.  Creating an invitation for an 8 year old boy that is cool AND that his mother likes is NOT an easy task.  Paige nailed it.

You should have seen the smile on Aidan’s face when he saw the invite!

The party itself was simple…a bunch of crazy 8 year olds, some front yard football, pizza, lots of sweets and a couple episodes of Wipeout!  The front yard football was not a planned part of the party…but it was a great way to start.  It also kept all of the boys occupied while everyone was arriving.

The pizza & dessert table was a huge hit…

The cookie cake towers were gone in a matter of seconds…

Such a simple way to make a “cake”…  I baked a large cookie cake and cut it into squares.  I stacked them with buttercream icing in between each layer.  I colored two chopsticks black with a sharpie and attached the word “Eight” with thread.  It served as the perfect “cake topper”.

I will post more next week on how to make your own graffiti-style backdrop, as well as the graffiti baseball hat party favors:)

Have a great weekend!

customer’s party…ice cream shoppe design

A couple months ago, I was asked to create an ice cream sundae design.  The birthday girl’s mom, Janeen, sent me the party photos earlier this week and I love the way the sweet Modern Frills tee works with all of other party designs.  Here are a few of the party photos…

crafty: upcycled superwoman tee…for my supergirl

My sweet neighbor passed on a Superwoman tee that her little girl had outgrown.  It was “well-loved” but still had a little life in it!  Fast forward a few months and my little girl needed a cute tee to wear to a Superhero party.

Supplies:

  1. well loved superwoman tee
  2. fusible webbing
  3. solid black tank top
  4. white thread
  5. sewing machine
  6. 5 year old nephew having a Superhero birthday party:)

Step 1:  Iron on the fusible webbing to the back of the  design.

Step 2: With the fusible webbing attached, cut the design as you would like it to appear when ironed on to the new tee.

Step 3:  Peel the paper from the back of the design and place it on the tee or tank top.

Step 4: Iron on the design to the new tee.

Step 5: Stitch the edges of the applique to secure it to the tee permanently.

and the end result…

…is a totally fun Superhero tee for GIRLS!
